Tips for Dog-Proofing Your Apartment

|

Whether you just got a new puppy or your old dog has learned new (bad) tricks, you've got to dog-proof your home so that your pets stay safe. It's easy to make your home safe for pets if you follow these simple tips:

Make Sure Your Trash is Out of Sight

Put all your trash in a bin that is out of sight and closed. Dogs love to get into the trash, and when they do, it makes a mess—and it can put their health at risk. So, make sure all your trash and recyclables are out of your dog's reach. This will give you peace of mind.

Use Gates, Kennels, and Pins When Necessary

You don't want to keep your dog locked up all the time, but if you're going to run an errand or have to get on a work call, put your dog in a kennel or pin, to avoid any issues. Or, if you want to give your dog more access to the house—but not complete access—put up baby gates in your apartment. You know what's best for your dog, so take precautions as necessary.

Have Dog Toys Around

One of the best ways to keep your puppy out of trouble is by giving them toys to play with. This way, they won't be tempted to chew your couch, or your chairs, or your favorite sweater. Create a bin full of plenty of toys, and let your pup play with them throughout the day. This will surely keep them happy and occupied.

Dogs are great members of the family, so it's vital to keep them safe and healthy (and also it's important to keep the furniture in your apartment looking clean and not chewed on). Puppy-proofing your home is possible, and easy, when you follow these tips. For more information about living in Olympus Apartments, contact us.
