Nothing feels quite as good as taking care of ourselves. And when it comes to taking care of our health and well-being, the circulatory system is a critical part of it all. So here are a few ways that you can boost your circulatory system.
Get Routine Blood Work Done
While we may feel as if we are healthy and thriving, our blood may tell another story. Getting routine blood work seems like a chore, but is an essential part in learning more about what might be going on inside our bodies – good or bad. Annual blood testing with your primary care physician is a great way to proactively care for your heart. This helps by checking cholesterol levels, red and white blood cells counts, as well as checking for a multitude of other deficiencies or illnesses.
Focus On Good Sleep
Getting an adequate amount of sleep (seven to nine hours each night) is an effective way to take care of your circulatory system. During waking hours, our heart works harder to keep up with physical movement and has a lot more natural variation in rhythm, which puts extra stress on our system. When we’re sleeping, our heart rate slows down and operates at a much more relaxed, steady pace.
Go for More Whole Foods
When looking at a list of heart-healthy foods, you won’t see fried or processed items. Instead, most of what you’ll find are whole foods that have been minimally processed, like legumes, leafy greens, fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy. Go for a more balanced, plant-based diet and focus your meals around whole foods. Your heart – and your whole body – will thank you for it!
