HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH: HERE ARE 4 WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

|

This recent circle around the sun has been a whirlwind – from elections, protests, pandemics, forest fires, solar flares, heightened emotions, and endless moral-social debates. 2020 has shown us that now is the best time to get involved in the human rights movement, so what better way to get started than during December (Human Rights Month). If you’re looking to dive into the human rights movement and make a difference in the world, then keep reading to learn how you can get started.

1. Get Informed

New to the human rights space? One of the best ways to get involved is to get informed! Spend some time digging into current worldly matters, whether it be the War on Drugs, getting accessible education to children during the pandemic, or bringing awareness to food deserts, there are plenty of human rights issues happening in 2020. Do a bit of research and find a campaign or a movement that resonates most with you.

2. Sign Petitions

Connect with like-minded individuals participating in specific issues via a petition platform like Change.org. Not only can you start your very own petition, but you have the opportunity to virtually sign hundreds of thousands of online petitions.

3. Use Your Voice

Whether it’s discussing human rights topics with family and friends or sharing information on your social media platforms to encourage others to sign petitions, using your voice can be a powerful tool in raising awareness.

4. Donate & Volunteer

Offering time, money, and resources to your nearby neighborhood can be profound in supporting human rights. Volunteering and or donating any support related to food, water, shelter, social matters, and health means you’re participating in helping to bring basic rights to your local community. Not sure where to get started? This nonprofit company helps match you with a volunteer network near you! Or try donating to a local food bank near you today.

5. Participate in Peaceful Protests

With COVID and cold weather in full force this December, this one may not be for everyone. But if you’re looking to get out there and peacefully protest to help bring awareness to human rights matters, here is an awesome resource for what’s happening in your area.
