Can you believe it’s already summer 2021? And with the longest day of the year n Sunday, June 20 – also known as summer solstice – let’s have some fun outdoors to celebrate the changing season.
1. Host a Barbecue
Nothing says summer quite like hanging out with your favorite people while your favorite grub sizzles on the barbecue. Whether you have the ideal backyard space for entertaining or are planning on taking advantage of the outdoor grilling areas at your Olympus apartment, there is always a way to host your friends and family for a summer cookout. Grill up corn on the cob and serve potato salad or toss leafy greens with a light vinaigrette for a tasty appetizer. And for the main course, try your hand at a homemade barbecue sauce slathered over your favorite meats – or seitan for the veggie lovers out there.
2. Head to the Water
Cool off from the summer heat with some time spent in the water. Chances are that no matter where you live, you’re close to a body of water, whether that means packing up your beach tote for a little surf and sand, staking out a spot at your favorite local river or lake, or heading to your local community pool.
3. Play Games Outside
What better way to ring in the summer season than with a little friendly competition? Head out to your neighborhood tennis or pickleball court for a head-to-head match. Get a cornhole or croquet set and have some fun in a grassy spot. Or maybe you want to try your hand at a round of golf with your closest buddies.
4. Soak Up Some Sunshine
Does all of the above sound like a bit too much effort? We have just what you need: A relaxing afternoon kicking back in the sunshine. Bring along your favorite book or tablet and blanket to the local park or your Olympus apartment’s amenity spaces for a lazy day in the summer sunshine. Pack some snacks and drinks, or go full-blown picnic mode and bring a full basket of goodies.
Tip: Remember to bring plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen to avoid heat-related illness.
