The birds are starting to sing, the flowers are beginning to bud, and spring cleaning fever is upon us. Most people decide that they're going to spend a day or two extensively cleaning and fixing-up their homes to give the year a fresh start. If you're feeling overwhelmed with the idea of a big to-do, have no fear! The Olympus Property team has compiled a list of 5 easy tips and tricks to reduce the spring cleaning stress.
Make A List
Sometimes people forget that planning is a huge part of what makes your spring cleaning session a success. Take a day to inventory what you hope to accomplish. Whether it's sorting out old clothing, steam cleaning the carpets, completing repair projects from the winter, or organizing a garage sale, all are valid activities to add to your list. The important thing is to set achievable goals.
Small Tasks Have A Big Impact
You've planned the big day, you have your list in hand, now what? Leading up to your busiest scheduled day of cleaning, make sure that you don't neglect the small cleaning tasks. Things as small as running the vacuum, mopping every other day, and wiping down your counters can make a big difference when it comes time for spring cleaning.
Practice Makes Perfect
Getting into the habit of cleaning up small things regularly will ultimately reduce the workload on your shoulders when it comes time for spring cleaning. We like to set a schedule for what we hope to accomplish in the span of two weeks. Here's a sample of a cleaning schedule:
- Mondays & Thursdays: Wipe down counters, clean the bathroom, and vacuum
- Tuesdays & Fridays: Dust blinds, wipe down mirrors and windows, and mop
- Wednesdays & Saturdays: Do laundry, take out the trash, and organize one cabinet
- Sundays: Pick one area of the house to do a deeper clean (i.e. what needs a deeper scrub-down most urgently)
While this list certainly doesn't cover all of the at-home to-dos, we've found that keeping to a manageable schedule helps us stay organized and ready for our bigger project days.
