As 2021 is coming to a close and we’re in the season of giving, what better time than now to do a donation haul and give to those who need it the most? From extra cans of food in the pantry to those never-worn pants in the back of your closet, there are plenty of ways to round up things you no longer need or use, and give to those who can benefit from them.
Clothing Donation Haul
Let’s not ignore the fact that we somehow end up getting a new pack of socks from a family member during a holiday gift exchange. This time of year is a prime opportunity to go through your sock drawer to pull out any pairs you’re willing to let go of for the benefit of someone else. And why not carry this method through to your entire closet? Pull a few shirts, pants, sweats, and anything else practical someone else could benefit from – drop off at a Dress for Success location near you.
Food Donation Haul
Whether it’s a few cans of beans, a bag or two of beef jerky, or some fruit cups, these simple, staple items are perfect for donating. So do a quick scan of your pantry and put aside any items you’re willing to give to others – just search for a local food bank in your area with a quick online zip code look up.
Dollar Store Stock Up
Head to your local dollar store and grab a few basic grooming supplies and even some snacks too! Toss it all into a bag and keep them in the back of your car. When you see someone on the street, this is a great way to give back. Just ask them if they’d like a care package and hand them out as you please (be mindful and stay safe when approaching strangers).
One for You. One for Someone Else.
The next time you drive through your favorite fast food restaurant, pick up an extra meal (or two) and pass it off to people who are asking for help. Order a few things off the dollar menu to keep costs low and offer someone a warm meal.
