3 PET-FRIENDLY RECIPES YOUR CANINE WILL LOVE

|

Calling all home chefs! It's time to work some pup-friendly recipes into your cooking routine. Not only will you feel satisfaction when presenting your four-legged friend with homemade goodies, but your dog will love the wholesome ingredients cooked with love.

Here are a few we're excited to try:

THE PERFECT BASIC POULTRY MIX

When it comes to a low-calorie, low-fat meal for Fido, you can't go wrong with chicken or turkey. Combine that with wholesome vegetables and brown rice and your pup will thank you as they gobble it up.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. of your favorite ground turkey or chicken
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 cups of brown rice
  • 2 packages (16 oz.) of frozen carrots, broccoli, cauliflower mix
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary

Directions

Cook the brown rice in water according to package directions. Cook and brown the chicken or turkey making sure to crumble it up as it cooks. Add the frozen vegetables, rosemary, and cooked rice to the meat. Mix well continuing to simmer until the vegetables are soft and cooked. Cool and refrigerate until ready to serve.

SLOW COOKER CANINE DINNER

Use the convenience of your crockpot to create your dog's next favorite meal. With healthy vegetable choices and ground meat, you can mix and match ingredients for a variety of tasteful options and low-cost deliciousness. You just might want to take a bite yourself.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. of lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup of your favorite brown rice
  • 1 1/2 cups of chopped-up butternut squash or sweet potato
  • 1 cup of chopped carrots
  • frozen spinach, kale, or peas
  • 1 can of kidney beans

Directions

Just combine all the ingredients into a 6-qt. slow cooker and add about 4 cups of water. Put the cover on and cook on low for 5-6 hours. All you have to do is give it an occasional quick stir and let it cook completely before you serve.

SIMPLE DOG TREATS TO LOVE

Homemade dog biscuits are easy to make and require little effort and simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of peanut butter (all-natural is best)
  • 3/4 cup of basic canned pumpkin (make sure there is nothing added)
  • 1 tsp. each of baking powder and cinnamon
  • 2 eggs

Directions

Stir all the ingredients together until mixed well. Roll into balls and flatten or use a dog bone-shaped cookie cutter and place on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 375° for about 15 minutes and let cool. You can experiment with other flavors including apple, sweet potato, and chicken broth. Your dog will come running when you say "treat!"

Remember, it is always a good idea to talk to your veterinarian before you start your dog on a new diet.
