What’s the only thing better than delicious ice cream on a hot summer day? Ice cream sandwiched between two equally delicious cookies, of course! August 2 was National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, but at Olympus Katy Ranch we’re embracing this very important holiday throughout the month, because who doesn’t want more excuses to eat ice cream, right? Read on to learn how you can get in on the fun.
Free Ice Cream Sandwiches
Come and get it! Stop by our leasing office between 3 and 5 PM on Friday, Aug. 13 to grab yourself a free ice cream sandwich and keep the National Ice Cream Sandwich Day party rolling. Don’t dilly-dally though – when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Easy DIY Ice Cream Sandwiches
If you can’t make it to the office for a freebie, try making your own ice cream sandwiches at home. Not only will you get to eat as many as you want, you can customize your sandwich with your favorite flavor combos. Make it easy with store-bought cookies from the supermarket or Nestle toll House Cafe by Chip, and your favorite ice cream flavors from nearby Creamistry, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, or Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes so it’s easy to scoop and spread between your cookies. Then put the assembled sandwiches back into the freezer until they’re firm and ready for you to enjoy.
Epic Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches
If you’re a chocolate lover, this recipe is for you. Check out this chocolate ice cream sandwich tutorial and get going. You’ll bake two large cookies that are rich and soft. Coat one with vanilla ice cream, more chocolate ice cream, or a boozy ice cream that includes rum or brandy. Then sandwich it together with the second large cookie, freeze, and cut into 12 individual bars. So good!
Go All Out & Make Your Own Ice Cream
You don’t need a fancy electric ice cream machine to make your own creamy frozen goodness. You can achieve a similar finished product using a metal sheet pan with a raised edge and a whisk. With this method, thorough whisking during the freezing process will minimize the formation of ice crystals, but you should expect a little more iciness than you’d find with machine-made ice cream. Have fun playing around with different recipes and flavors.
Mix up a basic ice cream base like this one from Food Network star, Ina Garten, then refrigerate for around two hours until it’s chilled.
Pour the liquid ice cream base into the sheet pan and freeze for 90 minutes.
Remove from the freezer and use a stainless-steel whisk to stir well.
Place back in the freezer for 45 minutes, remove, and whisk together again.
Repeat this process until the consistency is thick and well incorporated.
Using a silicone spatula, scoop out into a freezer-safe, sealable container.
Freeze the mixture until solid, usually about four hours.
Let’s be honest – every day is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day in our hearts, so enjoy these yummy treats any time you feel like it. For more fun and tasty ideas, plus a variety of entertainment and lifestyle recommendations, check out our other blog posts.
