(Wo)man’s Best Friend. That’s how the saying goes, right? Snuggle up on the couch with your bestie and enjoy a favorite film that you both will appreciate. Grab your popcorn and dog biscuits, and read on for seven barkin’ good dog movies to watch with your pooch.

Old Yeller (1957)

Quite possibly the best dog movie of all time, Old Yeller is a coming-of-age tale about the foundational bonding between humans and their furry best friends. And while it’s not always a walk in the park, the faithfulness is always there.

Best in Show (2000)

This mockumentary paints the picture of what it’s like behind the scenes at a great American dog show, with quirky improv comedy and a brilliant, funny cast. Rated 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, Best in Show wins “Best in Dog Movies” in our book.

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)

Follow along as three household pets venture off on an unexpected journey that leaves them all with a stronger relationship with one another, and a greater love for their human parents. Homeward Bound is a crowd-pleaser for the whole family, with lovable characters and adventurous scenes.

Lassie Come Home (1943)

Lassie Come Home is a testament to a dog’s loyalty to their family. In a small Yorkshire, England, village during the Great Depression, financial pressures lead a family to sell a young boy’s beloved dog Lassie to the Duke. While in the Scottish estate, the Duke’s granddaughter recognizes how much Lassie misses his owner, and let’s her escape to find her way home.

The Art of Racing in The Rain (2019)

As told from a dog’s perspective, The Art of Racing in The Rain is a wonderfully heartfelt and sentimental story about a family, love, loyalty, and hope. Warning: have the tissues handy, this might pull a few heartstrings.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016)

This fully-animated pet comedy is so cute, it will have you wondering what your own pet does all day while home alone. The main star Max is a spoiled Terrier who is bombarded with his owner bringing home an unruly pup, Duke. While out on a walk one day, the two get into some trouble that leads them on an adventure no dog could forget.

My Dog Skip (2000)

My Dog Skip is a cute movie the whole family will enjoy. Best friends don’t have to be human – and Willie Morris and his new pup Skip are here to prove it. They work to turn bullies into friends, and even win over the affections of a girl young Willie has eyes on.
