Summer is the season of play. Make the most of it while beating the heat at these three spots for air-conditioned fun in West Houston.
Dairy Ashford Roller Rink
Tee up some old-school fun at the roller rink. Lace up your skates – or rent them at Dairy Ashford – and squeeze in some turns at this place, which looks straight out of the ’80s. Public skating sessions are held every day except Monday. Best of all, the rink is less than 2 miles from The Ranch at Shadow Lake.
Golf, food, and drinks? No messing with carts or walking in Houston’s intense summer heat? Sign us up. Topgolf is a sure bet for summer fun. The premise of Topgolf is this: You post up in a climate-controlled hitting bay and smack microchipped balls at targets that are strewn about a driving range-like outfield. Different targets have different point values, and whoever racks up the most points wins. But, really, everyone’s a winner, because all the while you can order food and drinks that are delivered right to you. The closest Topgolf is about 7 miles away from The Ranch, just off I-10 on Memorial Brook Boulevard.
While it’s not fully reopened yet, Houston Funplex still merits a visit. When fully operational, this wonderland of fun offers a little bit of everything – arcade games, a giant Ferris wheel, skating, trampolines, go-karts, virtual reality games, and, well, you get the idea. Right now, only the bowling alley and sports bar are open. After all, there’s nothing quite like a fun night of bowling and friendly trash talk with your crew. Be sure to try one of their famous Texas-sized margaritas while you bowl. Funplex is super close to home, too, just 5 miles from The Ranch at Shadow Lake.
