BEAT THE DALLAS HEAT WITH THESE FROZEN TREATS

|

You might find yourself sweating in the summer heat this season, but take heart: Dallas is home to some of the best frozen treats in the region, making it all the easier for you to chill out (literally). Here are some local favorites.

Howdy Homemade

This ice cream shop has one standard that all flavors must achieve: Not just “good,” but “amazing.” And they’ve done just that, with a menu that features some pretty unique options. Are you daring enough to try Hot Tamale? How about Avocado? You definitely must try their signature flavor: Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip, which has made quite a name for itself in the community. Best of all, Howdy Homemade is committed to employing an under-employed demographic: Those with autism or down syndrome. By supporting this business, you are helping them make a difference in the community.

Pokey O’s

Remember when summertime meant the ultimate sweet treat on a hot night: The ice cream sandwich? Take a walk down memory lane and enjoy another one of these delicious treats – but the grown-up version. Pokey O’s famous cookies (from classic Chocolate Chip to Cappuccino Chocolate Chunk) make the perfect bookends to your ice cream cookie sandwich. And considering how big their scoops are, you’ll probably need a spoon to eat these!

Milk & Cream

If you want to notch it up from cookies and ice cream (yes, it gets better!), then try this sweet shop with the most beautiful desserts you’ve ever seen: Including their signature treat, the Milk & Cream Buns. This mouth-watering indulgence is similar to an ice cream sandwich – except that the ice cream is served not between cookies, but between a fluffy, sweet donut. And as if that’s not enough, the ice cream is dipped into your choice of toppings, from nuts to cereals to candies. It’s so cute, you might not want to eat it. (Nah, of course you will!)

Encanto Pops

Head over to Davis Street for some of the best paletas (Mexican popsicles) in Dallas. There are plenty of fruity vegan options, as well as classic, milk-based pops from Arroz con Leche to Churro. These are great if you are looking for something lighter than ice cream.
