Whether Discipline is your middle name or you have a hard time staying (on) the course, looking toward an event on the horizon can help to motivate anyone. If you’re hoping to get some miles in this summer, why not sign up for one of the many fun races in the Dallas area to help keep you on track? Check out these four suggestions from Mosaic Dallas, then lace ‘em up!
Tacos y Cerveza Trail Run
Some of us run just to run, and some of us run because it makes us feel okay doing other things. Like eating tacos and drinking beer. If you consider yourself more in the latter category, look into the Tacos y Cerveza Trail Run, held on the Trinity Trails System in Fort Worth. Choose from 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon distances, all of which start and finish near the Woodshed Smokehouse. You’ll enjoy a free beer and two street tacos with a valid bib – so run fast, and drink slow!
Have some good ole fun and encourage fitness in the lives of children at the Cowtown Marathon, held on May 8 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. This year they are allowing limited in-person participants for the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Healthy Hig Half Marathon Relay races. You can also choose to participate virtually at any distance. Proceeds from the race will support health and nutrition education for students through the CALF (Children’s Activities for Life & Fitness) program. You can feel great about that and look forward to your gaudy boot-shaped finisher medal, too!
Maybe you’re a serious runner, and after a year of being cooped up too often, you’re ready to really let loose on the course. Step up to the Texas Triple challenge, with three marathons or half-marathons over Memorial Day weekend. Hop in for one (or all!) of the Multiple Sclerosis Marathon & Half on May 29, the Wayne’s World Marathon & Half on May 30, and the Memorial Day Marathon & Half on May 31. No matter how hard you’re going, you’ll enjoy this flat but scenic course that loops around Bachman Lake in Dallas.
Form Follows Fitness 5K
Looking for an interesting and accessible race that will leave you plenty of time to prepare? Run downtown Dallas with an eye on the city’s award-winning architecture in the Form Follows Fitness 5K on June 19. This unique race benefits the Architecture and Design Exchange, which encourages conversations around architecture and supports architecture students with high school and university scholarships. Hang out after the race for food trucks, live music, and craft brews. Their swag is sweet, too: You’ll come away with a long-sleeve Brooks race shirt designed by a local architect or designer.
