Feeling motivated by the fresh energy of spring? With winter quickly fading into memory, now is the time to shake off the excess and make room for this vibrant new season. Throw open the curtains, tuck your cozy comforters away, and embrace the lightness of spring. With these three cleaning and decluttering tips, you can quickly and easily spruce up your home in no time.
First: Tackle the Clutter
During the chilly winter months, it’s easy to let clutter pile up without even realizing it. Grab a trash can, a recycling bin, and a bag for donations and begin sorting the clutter – clear off your countertops, tackle those teetering piles of paperwork, and toss expired items from your fridge. Next, channel your inner Marie Kondo as you sift through your cabinets, closets, and storage areas and eliminate items that no longer “spark joy.” Haven’t used it in several months? Free up that space for things you love! Hanging on to clothing that no longer fits or isn't your style? Toss it into the donate or sell pile. Holding onto an item “just in case” or keeping that “thoughtful” gift out of guilt? Buh-bye!
Second: Tidy, Streamline & Straighten
Now it’s time to make sure everything has its place. Grab a box or a basket, and go through each room and remove any items that don’t belong. Take time to clear off and organize your shelves and horizontal surfaces – corral like items into bins and baskets, and tidy and straighten everything so it is streamlined and easy to find. As you go, reassess your space to see what’s working and what isn't – this is the time to make tweaks so that your home has the feeling you want. Serene and calm. Warm and lively. Vibrant and playful. You do you.
Third: The Deep Clean
Now, it's time for a major refresh. Turn on some tunes, grab your cleaning supplies and make your home shine. Take it room by room, starting from the top and working your way down. In the kitchen, dust and clean your light fixtures before wiping cabinets inside to out. Polish your countertops, faucet, and appliances, and bring sparkle back to your floors. Take on the bathrooms with the same system and gusto – top to bottom, inside to out – you’ve got this! Next, spruce up the living room and bedrooms while rotating loads of laundry. After you’ve cleaned all surfaces, bring back the fresh linens, fluff up your cushions, and bask in a job well done.
