No time to put up an elaborate holiday light display of your own this year? Never fear! Just head to the Dallas Zoo Lights event where you’ll be dazzled by an amazing display on select nights until Jan. 2, 2022. This year, the zoo is continuing the drive-thru format that was launched in 2020, so visitors can enjoy the event from the comfort and safety of their own vehicle.
A Holiday View of the Dallas Zoo
Take a new kind of animal safari as you drive through a mile-long spectacle of more than 1 million sparkling lights and illuminated scenes. The 30- to 40-minute route takes you through areas of the zoo that aren’t usually open to the public, along with more familiar sections of ZooNorth. Tune your radio to the Zoo’s station, 1680 AM for holiday tunes, or just lead your own sing-along as you go.
So Many Glittering Scenes
Most of the live animals will all be sleeping for the night, but there will be plenty of glittering animal replicas for guests to view, along with lots of other festive vignettes. Keep your eyes peeled for silk-covered animal lanterns, a lush rainforest, an Antarctic adventure, stunning 360-degree light tunnels, and much more. New for 2021 is immersive video projection mapping that transforms select areas along the path. At the end of the driving trail, you have the option to park and stroll through the bigger, brighter Reliant Holiday Village and enjoy photo ops, meet Santa, buy snacks, drinks and souvenirs, and take in some musical performances.
Zoo Lights Schedule, Tickets & Admission
Dallas Zoo Lights is open from 6 to 9:30 PM on select nights through Jan. 2. Timed entry tickets must be purchased online in advance. Many nights sell out, so don’t wait until the last minute. The cost is $50 per car for Zoo members, and $65 for non-members. Bring as many people as your vehicle can safely accommodate with seatbelts and car seats. Riding in the bed of a pickup truck is not permitted, and the driving path cannot accommodate extra-large vehicles such as RVs, limousines, monster trucks, etc. There are some other requirements and restrictions, so check the event website carefully before your arrival.
