Ahh, the fresh air and springtime sunshine – what’s not to love about exercising outside? The great outdoors around Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is full of endless opportunities to lace up your boots and get close to Mother Nature. Here are our favorite spots nearby to hit the trails.
Greenway Searcy Trailhead
Hiking out and back along the Greenway Trail from the Searcy/Manson Pike Trailhead gives you front row access to stunning views of Ransom’s Mill Dam and Stones River Bridge. Bring a book to relax mid-hike or just stop and listen to the soothing sounds of the river flowing alongside this beautiful trail.
Walter Hill Trailhead
Sitting a bit farther north of town at the Walter Hill Recreation Area, this mostly-paved trail offers killer views of the East Fork Stones River and its surrounding wildlife.
The Cason Trail Greenway runs adjacent to West Stones Fork River and Sterling Farmer Lake. With an accompanying dog park and playground, this hike is the perfect place to bring your kiddos and pups to stretch their legs and take in the fresh air. Pack a picnic lunch and stop at the park on your way out to refuel.
Murfreesboro Greenway System
From bobcat sightings and butterflies to flowing river streams, more than 8 miles of trail within the city transport you to a forest-y getaway just off of the West Fork Stones River. The Murfreesboro Greenway System is not only a dog-friendly trail system, but it accommodates all skill levels. Just be sure to leave the parking lot by sunset or you’ll run the risk of getting locked in by the park ranger.
