There are plenty of reasons to love Albuquerque and our historic Old Town is one of them. Packed with attractions, there are endless adventures to be had exploring everything it offers. Don’t limit yourself to one day – make it an ongoing affair, and come back again and again to explore everything on offer. For those shorter weekends, this handy guide will help you get a taste of some of its truly magnificent attractions.

American International Rattlesnake Museum

According to its website, the American International Rattlesnake Museum “is home to the largest collection of different species of live rattlesnakes in the world!” Don’t worry, the snakes aren’t free to roam around. This is your chance to – safely – learn a lot more about these slithering critters.

Casa Flamenca

The nonprofit Casa Flamenca is a performing arts venue working to preserve the art of flamenco dancing through classes and performances. Due to COVID-19, many of their traditional shows and classes have been canceled, but they have just unveiled an outdoor performance space called the Tablao al Aire offering socially distanced seating. Pay them a visit, show your support, and see some truly magnificent dancing.

New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

Temporarily closed due to the pandemic, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is a must-see when it reopens. Located on the outer edge of eastern Old Town, this expansive museum offers permanent exhibits exploring billions of years of New Mexico’s natural history, dinosaur fossils found in the state, space exploration, and much more. The museum also offers a variety of temporary exhibits. The museum also offers online exhibits that can be accessed anytime.

Ghost Tour

Albuquerque’s historic Old Town has a rich history and is said by some to be a very haunted place. ABQ Tours offers safe, socially distanced tours, limited to six individuals. Tour guides intersperse stories of the supernatural with bits of historical fact and display evidence collected by ghost hunters throughout the years, building out a rich – and spooky – multisensory experience. Don’t miss it!

Spur Line Supply Co.

There are a number of great shops to explore in Old Town, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them. We like Spur Line Supply Co. for its focus on the high desert aesthetic and simple use of space. This elegant shop offers just about everything you need, from clothing and incense to blankets, pottery, and gourmet chili sauces.

In Albuquerque, every day can truly be an adventure. For more tips on getting the most out of each day, visit the Olympus Solaire blog.
