Jacksonville is home to a unique destination that promotes environmental stewardship. It's called the Tree Hill Nature Center and is where you can explore trails and learn about fascinating wildlife. Here is some of what you can discover near our Jacksonville apartments:
Museum
Included with admission, the hands-on natural science museum is a great place to begin your visit to the center. Here, you can enjoy unique displays and explore a room dedicated to highlighting Florida's wetlands.
Barred Owl
With brown and white mottled feathers and dark brown eyes that almost look black, the center's barred owl is easy to recognize. In the wild, these owls live in mature forests, typically near water. At times, they can be heard calling during the day and are known for saying, "who cooks for you?"
Arlington Community Garden
At the Arlington Community Garden, the mission is to grow produce for the food pantry at Arlington Community Services. It features 35 gardening areas managed by those who "adopt" a plot. The garden also provides seedlings, soil amendments (when necessary), and gardening advice. So if you like to get your hands dirty, ask about helping out!
Volunteer
For a fun way to give back, you can also donate your time at the center. Some volunteers regularly schedule shifts, while others are occasional helpers. Depending on your interests, tasks can include answering phones, assisting with events, as well as helping with the animals (advanced qualifications required).
The Tree Hill Nature Center is also open Monday through Saturday. After learning about the great outdoors, treat yourself to some of the best Mexican cuisines in Jacksonville. You can sample everything from tasty tacos to enchiladas. Finally, if you would like to call Wimberly at Deerwood home, please contact us. Our team will gladly arrange a tour where you can see the amenities and floor plans our apartments in Jacksonville have to offer.
