Owning a dog can help make you happier and healthier. If you're looking to add a furry friend to your home, several shelters around Jacksonville offer a range of breeds. Those near our Jacksonville apartments include:
Fawn's Small Dog Rescue
Fawn's Small Dog Rescue was founded in memory of a miniature pinscher named Fawn. This rescue focuses on saving the lives of dogs in overcrowded kill shelters and providing education on spaying and neutering. The pups live in caring foster homes until they find loving families. The dogs receive complete veterinary care and socialization. To start the adoption process, fill out an application online.
Jacksonville Humane Society
Dating back to 1885, the Jacksonville Humane Society has a long history of saving animals in need. It became a no-kill organization in 2014 and rescues dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and personalities. The volunteers provide care and compassion and help adopters find the right pet for their families. Dogs must go home with approved leashes and collars. You can bring these items with you, or the society has them available for purchase.
Greyhounds as Pets
A nonprofit organization, Greyhounds as Pets offers an "opportunity to adopt and enjoy the loving companionship of this versatile breed as a pet." During your visit, you can spend plenty of time with the greyhound you're considering adopting. Take a walk or enjoy playing in the fenced yard. Before adoption, the dogs have their teeth cleaned, are spayed/neutered, and receive any necessary vaccinations. Be sure and make an appointment before visiting.
