5 APPETIZERS FOR YOUR MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION

|

The carnival celebration that brings out all the New Orleans flair is finally upon us, and luckily you don’t need to travel to Louisiana just to partake in the Fat Tuesday celebrations. Feel like you’re on Bourbon Street in the comfort of your home, with a little Mardi Gras party and these five appetizers to spruce up the party. Eat up before the fasting begins!

Pineapple, Avocado & Bean Salsa

The signature colors of Mardi Gras are gold, green, and purple. So while this delicious salsa may not scream Southern flavor, it sure looks the part in the middle of your festive spread. Pair with chips and you’re good to go!

Mini Crab Cakes With Garlic-Chive Sauce

Indulge in these amazing mini crab cakes, which are packed with a punch of flavor. Prep the patties ahead of time, and when it’s time to party, simply cook the cakes in batches on a large griddle over medium heat. Pair with an easy homemade garlic-chive sauce and you’ll be melting in crab cake heaven.

Gumbo

You can’t throw a Mardi Gras party without having the quintessential New Orleans dish, gumbo. Set up a gumbo bar, where guests can throw in whatever toppings they’d like. Made with dark roux, vegetables, chicken, sausage, and shrimp, served over rice, this recipe is full of flavor and sure to impress.

Crispy Andouille Hush Puppies

A twist on the classic hush puppy, this recipe adds a kick from the andouille sausage. Each crunchy, savory bite will take you to the party scene in New Orleans. Don’t go without a dip for these; we recommend a yummy whole grain dijon mustard.

Homemade Beignets

You’re gonna need a little sweet for your display, and what better treat than a classic New Orleans beignet. The warm, sugary pillows of deep-fried goodness are not as hard to make from home as you’d think. Make the dough, fry them up, and top with loads of powdered sugar.

Make this year’s Mardi Gras at home a fun celebration with these five appetizers that will transport you right to Bourbon Street. For more top recipes, check out the Wimberly at Deerwood blog.
