Here are our favorite spots to lay out and relax.
Comprised mostly of red sandstone, Papago is known for its massive buttes that rise and fall throughout the park. Visitors can climb to the top to take in stunning skyline views of downtown Phoenix, as well as explore the park's other attractions which include the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanic Garden. The best picnic spot is near the north side of the zoo.
Tempe Beach Park
Tempe Beach Park has been the main gathering place for Valley residents since the 1920s. It is one of the top recreational attractions in Arizona and is known for hosting events such as the Rock n' Roll Marathon. There are more than five miles of paths and picnic areas where guests can enjoy their fried chicken and deviled eggs.
White Tank Mountain Regional Park
At nearly thirty thousand acres, White Tank Mountain is Maricopa County's largest regional park. Much of it is made up of the White Tank Mountains on the west side, and the range rises sharply from its base to peak at over four thousand feet. It is the perfect place to picnic while enjoying the serenity of the Arizona desert, and there are more than two hundred picnic tables throughout.
Cave Creek Regional Park
Nestled in the upper Sonoran Desert, Cave Creek Regional Park spans nearly three thousand acres and provides an oasis full of colorful wildflowers and picturesque views. There are more than eleven miles of trails to explore, and along the way, visitors can find several places to spread a blanket to relax or enjoy a picnic lunch.
