Volunteer at Food Banks around Albuquerque

Volunteer for Your Community at Albuquerque Food Banks

Giving back to the community is a great way to help those in need while learning new skills and meeting new friends. If that sounds good to you, consider volunteering at a local food bank. You can help with sorting, packing, and other duties while getting to know your community. The food banks near our apartments in Albuquerque, New Mexico, include:

Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico

A member of Feeding America, the Roadrunner Food Bank takes pride in being a leader in solving hunger. It began helping those in need in 1979. Today, the food bank distributes millions of pounds of food across the state of New Mexico every year. Roadrunner is always looking for friendly volunteers. One of the most helpful volunteer positions is working in the warehouse, where you'll sort food for distribution and feel good about making a difference in people's lives.

Storehouse New Mexico

Storehouse New Mexico provides nutritious food to anyone experiencing hunger. It's the state's largest food pantry. Storehouse relies on the community's generosity for their food stores. Because of this, Storehouse supplies the average client with approximately 90 meals every month. Storehouse volunteers help to make a difference while sorting and packing the food and placing the boxes in clients' cars on distribution days.

The Food Depot

The Food Depot works to create hunger-free communities in Northern New Mexico. It keeps food out of landfills by accepting slightly damaged goods, products produced in excess, and those nearing their expiration date. Any items unsuitable for people are donated to local chicken and hog farms. The volunteers donate a combined 2,000 hours or more every month. Duties may include evaluating food quality, sorting, and repacking food into boxes.

Although volunteering can be hard work, nothing beats the feeling of serving your community and helping those in need. After volunteering, relax with a cup of joe at a local coffee shop.
