For a fun way to learn about art, head to the Irvine Fine Arts Center. It's an easy drive from our Irvine apartments and offers exhibitions, classes, and open studio programs. Here is some of what you can discover during your visit:
The cultural and contemporary art exhibitions highlight the incredible works of local and regional artists. They are meant to, "expand community awareness, understanding, and sensitivity to art." The displays rotate, so there is always something new to discover.
Bring out your inner artist during the center's fun classes. They're led by skilled instructors, and all abilities are invited to join in on the fun. One of the choices includes Drawing Foundations. You'll enhance your observational skills as you learn to measure for proportion and placement and gain an understanding of shadow and light. Required materials include charcoal (or graphite), newsprint paper, and a portable pencil sharpener.
Open Studio Programs
After completing one full course or a refresher class, you can enhance your skills during open studio hours. The studios feature state-of-the-art equipment. While they're staffed with technicians and volunteers, no instruction is provided. You'll find four studios, including one where you can make one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for friends. Both reservations and closed-toed shoes are required.
If you already have extensive art knowledge, consider becoming a volunteer. Year-round openings are available in the open studios, and you'll need to commit to at least eight hours a month. To get started, fill out an application. Once it is accepted, you'll attend an orientation and receive any necessary training.
