When you want to enjoy some hiking, mountain biking, or rock climbing fun, head to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. It stretches over 30,000 acres and features diverse wildlife and lush cacti forests. Here is some of what the preserve offers near our Gilbert apartments:
Sunrise Trail
For a challenging adventure, lace up your hiking boots on the Sunrise Trail. It's one of the preserve's most difficult paths, with many steep sections and an elevation change of more than 1,100 feet. Along the way, explorers discover beautiful granite formations and take in views of the McDowell Mountains.
Brown's Ranch Trailhead
The Brown's Ranch Trailhead offers a variety of paths. They boast crushed granite terrain and welcome everyone from hikers to horseback riders. This trailhead also includes interpretive exhibits about the land's human history.
Mountain Biking
Satisfy your need for speed on the mountain biking paths (which may also be used by hikers). You'll find sharp switchbacks and significant steep climbs on Tom's Thumb Trail, while the Mesquite Canyon Trail is more beginner-friendly with brief sections of loose gravel. In addition, the preserve also offers guided bike rides throughout the year. The fun includes educational rides and mountain bike skill clinics for beginners or anyone who needs a refresher course.
Rock Climbing
Reach new heights during rock climbing fun. It offers a full-body workout with benefits like improved balance, flexibility, and grip strength. At the preserve, climbers explore designated trails leading to historic climbing crags.
After exploring the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, then enjoy a few slices of your favorite pizza at a nearby restaurant.
