Did you know that barbecue originated in America during the Western cattle drives in the late 1800s?
At the time, the cowboys feasted on less than perfect cuts of meat, usually brisket.
Whether you enjoy St. Louis-style ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, or burnt ends, visit one of the following restaurants where you'll find these meals and more:
Called one of the "Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States" by Yelp, Bobby Q was established by Bob Sikora. He decided to bring barbecue to the Phoenix area and boasts that the secret to his success is the slow cooking process over almond and mesquite wood. Executive Chef Mark Hittle created a special dry rub for the meat, and choices include jumbo Texas beef ribs, smoked link sausage, and brisket.
Arizona BBQ Company
The Arizona BBQ Company serves traditional barbecue favorites with a local twist. When the owners created the menu, they knew they wanted to offer classic dishes along with those that feature the flavors of the southwest. That's why the pitmasters serve the dry rub meats with sauces featuring green chili and habanero. Meals include pulled pork, smoked chicken, and brisket.
Joe's Real BBQ
Found inside an old brick building, Joe's Real BBQ takes everyone back to the golden age of agricultural Arizona. It features a neon sign, colorful mural, and a restored John Deere tractor. When the restaurant opened in 1999, it served more than 1,000 customers on the first day. Business has remained strong, and the dining room is often packed. The menu includes turkey jalapeno sausage, pit ham, and St. Louis-style short ribs.
