Desert Botanical Garden
It was in the 1930s when a small group of local citizens saw the need to conserve the area's beautiful environment. That is how the Desert Botanical Garden was born, and it is committed to advancing excellence in the conservation of the world's desert plants with a focus on the southwestern United States. Visitors can enjoy an array of events throughout the year, as well as explore trails such as the Center for Desert Living and the Sonoran Desert Nature Loop.
At the Phoenix Zoo, the mission is to advance the conservation of animals and their habitats while providing experiences that motivate guests to care for the natural world. It is home to more than three thousand animals from across the globe including species that are endangered or threatened. Some of those you'll see include Asian elephants, Galapagos tortoises, and Mexican gray wolves.
Papago Golf Course
Home of the Arizona State golf team, the Papago Golf Course is the finest public course in the state. It was designed by renowned architect William Francis Bell and has hosted events such as the Amateur Public Links Championship. Since opening in 1963, the course has welcomed players of all abilities, and it offers challenges in the form of sand traps and gently rolling hills. Those who would like to improve their game can take lessons from Papago's PGA professionals.
