The Goldmine Trail is one of the most popular trails in the San Tan Regional Park as it features elevation changes and picturesque views. Along the way, hikers see colorful flowers and an array of wildlife including various bird species.
Javelina Canyon and Ridgeline Loop Trail
Popular March through October, the Javelina Canyon and Ridgeline Loop Trail is an easy to moderate adventure that takes hikers away from the city to atop South Mountain. The ascent is gradual, and each turn offers stunning scenery. Once at the top, hikers who want to continue their journey can take the Ridgeline Trail to Beverly Canyon.
Echo Canyon is often crowded on the weekends, and the hike round trip takes two to three hours. After conquering the hardest part of the trail, hikers will find large rocks, stunning views, and a continued steep grade until they reach the summit.
Piestewa Peak Summit Trail
The Piestewa Peak is named in honor of Lori Piestewa who died while serving our country in Iraq. It's the second highest peak in Phoenix, and hikers who make it to the top are rewarded with a 360-degree view of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. The trail is internationally recognized and features multiple switchbacks and modified steps.
Tom's Thumb is a heavily trafficked trail where hikers can learn about the second largest landslide in the state. They'll also take in fabulous views of the southern McDowell Mountains and see an array of wildflowers. This adventure spans four miles and is rated moderate.
