Visit The Dallas World Aquarium

An easy drive from Union at Carrollton Square is a destination that aids conservation and education by housing animals that are endangered or threatened.

We're talking about the Dallas World Aquarium, and thousands of visitors walk through its doors each year to explore the fascinating exhibits that feature marine life from around the world.

Highlights include:

Orinoco Secrets of the River - The Orinoco Secrets of the River exhibit highlights the biodiversity of this important South American rainforest ecosystem. It's home to several animals including bare-faced curassows. These turkey-sized birds are of most concern to conservationists, and they're found in places such as Brazil and Paraguay. It's rare for them to be seen in U.S. zoos.

South Africa - South Africa is a year-round outdoor exhibit where shoebill storks and black-and-white penguins greet visitors. It also features other animals such as radiated tortoises. In 1973, this species was classified as vulnerable to extinction by the United States government, but over the last decade, their status has changed to critically endangered.

Mundo Maya - Mundo Maya is an eight-story exhibit where the culture of the Maya comes to life. Visitors can learn about the animals that are prevalent in Mayan folklore including Jabiru storks, spectacled owls, and black-and-white hawk-eagles.

Aquarium - The aquarium gallery showcases coral reef and kelp forest systems. It features a 20,000-gallon walk-through tunnel that includes palm tree polyps, pot-bellied seahorses, and Moorish idols.
