Did you know that some of the city's free museums showcase incredible works of art?
Those not to be missed include:
Moody Center for the Arts
Designed by famed architect Michael Maltzan, the Moody Center for the Arts is renowned for its inviting transparency and bold geometric shapes. The center is found on the campus of Rice University, and its mission is to encourage creative thinking and enrich curricular innovation. Visitors can explore an array of fascinating exhibits and attend events such as A Night of Philosophy and Ideas.
The Menil Collection
The Menil Collection has been a local institution since 1987. John and Dominique de Menil established the museum as they believe the arts are central to the human experience. That's why admission is always free, and the collection features an array of art they collected between the 1940s and 1990s. The exhibitions showcase works created in various media, and those currently on display include Inside the Living Room, Contemporary Focus: Leslie Hewitt, and the Davin Flavin Installation. Throughout the year, The Menil Collection also offers events such as book signings and a lecture series.
Contemporary Arts Museum Houston
Established in 1948, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston is a non-collecting institution devoted to presenting the most exciting national and international art. Between 1979 and 1984, the museum's collection rapidly grew, and it was during this time that it emerged as one of the most significant cultural centers in the United States. The exhibits exemplify the art of today, and one of the exhibitions includes Nicolas Moufarrege: Recognize My Sign. On view through February 17, 2019, it traces the development of Moufarrege's works from the lap-scale portrait tapestries he made in Beirut to the final pieces he created in New York City.
