Houston is a city filled to the brim with fun new places to eat, parks to take your family to, and bars to get drinks with friends. But did you know that Houston is also a great place to explore the wonderful world of museums? If you're looking for museums close to the Ranch at Shadow Lake, all of these are less than 30 minutes away.
Houston's Museum of Fine Arts
This museum has a vast collection of art that spans across centuries of human creativity. Why not take a look at four centuries of Indian history centered around the Rathore dynasty? From armor to jewelry to even a finely crafted court tent, there are about 250 objects on display. Maybe you would like to explore the history of drawing in late 15th and 16th century Europe, told through the paintings of Michelangelo and his successors. If so, the Michelangelo and the Vatican exhibit is for you. Or are you more of a fan of the modern age? They have an upcoming exhibit called the Joris Laarman Lab: Design in the Digital Age that explores the combination of robotics and digital drawings with the inspiration of nature. One thing is for sure, Houston's Museum of Fine Arts has a wide variety of fine collections that will tickle the interests of anyone. Be sure to check out ticket prices and hours here.
Houston Museum of Natural Science
If paintings aren't your thing, then check out the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Not only does the museum have 16 astonishing exhibits, but it also has a planetarium, a butterfly center, and a giant screen theater. Do you know a huge Star Wars fan? Hurry to get a ticket to a May The Fourth Be With You Mixer. Are you interested in the solar system? Why not have the family out for Family Space Day to experience a simulated rocket launch to the moon? Or just explore the many halls that the museum has to offer, such as the Hall of Ancient Egypt or the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals.
Children's Museum of Houston
From floor to ceiling, this museum is specifically designed to entertain and educate children. Exhaust your kids on the Challenge Course, a seven-part course that puts your child to the test. Is your child creative? Visit the Marker Annex to bring their inventions to life in new and wondrous ways. Or explore the fun of math in the Cyberchase exhibit. On April 28th, kids get to learn about the aboriginal culture of Australia in the Ancient Encounters exhibit. Or during the week of May 3, learn what it means to be a kid from places around the world in the Destination Celebration WonderWeek. Or let your kid be a spy all year long, with the S.E.C.R.E.T. Agents program. Your kid gets to be a secret spy that cracks codes and stops the villains!
