Dallas music festivals always seem to draw crowds in large numbers... and who doesn't love a good old-fashioned county fair? This begs the question, why not join the two to create a day that allows guests to enjoy the combination of both? Three years ago, the Old 97s alt-country band and HomeGrown Music and Arts Festival teamed up to do exactly that, resulting in the one-day festival, the Old 97s County Fair. Held on April 14th at the Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas, this year's fair is sure to bring in hundreds of guests from the community to join in on the fun.
What You Will Hear
The musical lineup for this year's festival includes nine alt-country bands, each with different musical influences and backgrounds. Guests may find themselves singing along with performers like the Old 97s, Lord Huron, The Mavericks, Valerie June, Bottle Rockets, Erika Wennerstrom (of Heartless Bastards), Paul Cauthen, Jaime Wyatt, and Bastards of Soul.
What You Can Do
When you're not watching the bands perform live on stage, there will be plenty to keep you busy and give you an afternoon and evening of excitement and entertainment. You can climb on board the 40-foot Ferris wheel to take in the view of downtown Dallas, or you can take your shot at the carnival style games on the midway. Just make sure you don't forget the cash, as many of the vendors require cash only for their games and activities.
What You Will Eat
Plan ahead and save room for the county fair goodies that will assault your senses as you make your way around the midway. It wouldn't be an authentic county fair experience without the taste of those deep fried corn dogs and sugar covered funnel cakes!
