Visit the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland

Midland is famous for two very different things. It was the childhood home of President George W. Bush and home to a major oil field, the Permian Basin. Residents of Midland can learn about the science, industry, and history of oil drilling in Midland from the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum that is located just a short drive from our community in downtown Midland.

With over 40,000 square feet of exhibition space, there is a lot to see and do inside the Petroleum Museum. From the "Mythcracker", an introductory video which seeks to dispel myths about petroleum production, to the recreation of a Permian era reef, to the interactive "Voyage of the Petrotrekker," the Petroleum museum offers a variety of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages.

In addition to its exhibits about oil production, the museum has several galleries dedicated to other figures of both local and national importance. The Chaparral gallery features 8 working race cars that were built by Chaparral Cars, a racing team based in Midland. The Tom Lovell Gallery features 14 paintings created by the artist that depicts the cultural life of the Permian Basin, offering a creative way to explore the area's history and culture.

In addition to their exhibits and gallery, the museum offers many events for locals and museum members alike including several movie screenings such as The Lego Batman Movie and The Incredibles, in addition to a science camp for children. This upcoming fall they are hosting a Birthday Bash on September 28th to celebrate 43 years of operations, as well as hosting speakers in a variety of topics. Be sure to check out their events calendar for more information about upcoming events. If you are interested in hosting your own event in this unique space, the museum offers rentals for anywhere from 20 to 2000 guests, depending on your needs.

Whether you are interested in science, art, race cars, or just having a good time, there is something for everyone at the Petroleum Museum. This is just one of the exciting attractions near our community in Midland. If you are searching for a new home, please contact our leasing consultants to arrange a private showing of our grounds and amenities.
