Did you know that in the 19th century, fruit pies were commonly eaten at breakfast before the start of a long day?
Today, pie is one of the country's favorite after-dinner treats, and the best places to enjoy a slice in Savannah include:
The Lady & Sons Restaurant
The Lady & Sons Restaurant began from humble beginnings at the Best Western Hotel on the city's south side. It quickly grew in popularity, and today it calls a 200-year-old, three-story building home. Owned by celebrity chef Paula Deen and her two sons, the restaurant comes complete with friendly service, exposed brick, and colorful photographs. The menu includes pies such as pecan and key lime, and they can be enjoyed with a steaming cup of tea.
Lulu's Chocolate Bar
Voted "Best Dessert in Savannah" by the readers of Connect Magazine, Lulu's Chocolate Bar is where all of the treats are made from scratch. It boasts a four-star rating on Yelp, and with dim lighting, makes for the perfect date night destination. The menu features an array of specialty drinks, and they all pair well with pies including praline pecan and chocolate peanut butter.
River House Seafood
Found inside an 18th-century restored cotton warehouse, River House Seafood has been a local favorite since 1982. Visitors always enjoy attentive service, and they can spend leisurely time with friends as they watch the ships pass by on the river. Musicians entertain with live music every Thursday through Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the menu includes pies such as Georgia pecan, key lime, and white chocolate coconut cream.
