Taking place every month, the Bonaventure Historical Society offers guided tours of the Bonaventure Cemetery. Over the course of the hour-long tour, visitors will be guided by members of the Bonaventure Historical Society throughout the property. Highlights of the tour include the elaborate tombs of iconic figures such as songwriter Johnny Mercer, poet Conrad Aiken, and Little Gracie Watson.
Bonaventure: A Historic Cemetery in Art
Making its home at the Jepson Center in downtown Savannah, the Bonaventure: A Historic Cemetery in Art is an exhibit available through the end of September. With a mission to showcase the collection of art that highlights the Bonaventure Cemetery, this exhibit shows various mediums including paintings, photographs, and sculpture. Artists in this exhibit have created works that were inspired by the haunting beauty of the cemetery with scenes that include the famed moss-covered oaks that fill the space and the stoic funerary sculptures.
Bonaventure Cemetery: After Hours Stories Eternal
Taking place until the end of the year, Bonaventure Cemetery: After Hours Stories Eternal is a fantastic way to explore the cemetery grounds at night. Led by Savannah's own famed historian and storyteller Shannon Scott, this after-hours tour covers everything from secret societies to burial rites. Over the course of the 2 1/2 hour tour, visitors will learn how Bonaventure Cemetery played a role in Savannah's rich history as well as how it comes into play into popular culture such as in the acclaimed novel Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil.
