The Dallas Museum of Art is a Short Walk Away

A nine-minute walk from Mosaic Dallas is one of the largest art museums in the United States.

We're talking about the Dallas Museum of Art, and since its return to free general admission in 2013, it has welcomed more 3.2 million visitors.

The museum was established in 1903 and boasts that it's distinguished by its commitment to research, innovation, and public engagement.

Its collection spans more than five thousand years and features over 24,000 works. Current exhibits include:

Waxed: Batik from Java (on display through December 3, 2017)

Batik is a wax-resist process for dye-decorating cloth, and the museum states that in India, it is especially associated with the island of Java. This exhibit displays batik that was made in the west and central regions before 1930.

The Wittgenstein Vitrine (on display through December 31, 2017)

In 2013, the museum announced one of its most significant acquisitions to date: an incredible silver vitrine that was once owned by the Wittgenstein family of Vienna. Standing more than five feet tall, it's considered one of the most important pieces of the 20th century and is encrusted with enamel, moonstones, opals, and other semiprecious stones.

Yayoi Kusama: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins (on display through February 25, 2018)

All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins is where visitors step into a mirrored space to fully immerse themselves in the artist's unique creation. It's the only room of its type in North America, and it showcases the reflective chamber of acrylic yellow gourds with black polka dots.
