Our Latest News
If you’ve browsed even one health and wellness publication, Instagram post, or news article in the past few years, you know just how important a good night’s sleep is for our productivity, peace of mind, and physical and mental health. And given that we spend about a third of our day (and thus a third of our lives) in bed, it behooves us to be smart and intentional about this purchase. With so many different options on the market, it can be overwhelming to find the perfect fit. Today we’re letting you in on everything we know about bedding—from choosing the right mattress to finding the bedding that complements your style and everything in between.
Depending on the size of your bedroom and who you’ll be sharing your bed with, you have a few options when it comes to sizing. If it’s just you and you prefer more room for other furniture in your space such as a desk or dresser, a full-size bed might work just fine. If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner or pets, you may want to consider upgrading. Queens will definitely do the trick, but if you or your partner are a particularly active sleeper and you have space in your room, a King-size bed could be the difference between a restful night’s sleep and a fitful evening on the couch. Even if you plan to order online, you may want to go to department or mattress stores to eyeball different options, and be sure to measure your room dimensions before making any purchases.
Another major factor when it comes to finding a bed is firm vs soft. If you know what works for you, we recommend you stick with it to avoid discomfort or back issues. If you’re not sure, head to a mattress retailer and test some different products out. You should also know that there are many in-between options, which is particularly helpful if you and your partner have different preferences for mattress firmness.
A recent rise in direct-to-consumer mattress companies have made shipment and delivery to apartment homes easy as can be. If you decide to go this route, there are a lot of options out there to choose from. These mattresses usually come impressively rolled up in a relatively mobile box, making the move-in process significantly less stressful. We’re loving Tuft and Needle, with rave reviews and reasonable prices.
Put the finishing touch on your new bed by investing in some quality sheets and a duvet cover you love. If you’re craving a plush, resort-like look, go for all white and invest in extra plump pillows to give the head of your bed a little bit of life. Nervous about the stain-vulnerability factor of all white bedding? Spring for a more colorful look, like this gorgeous patterned duvet in deep turquoise from Anthropologie.
