Our Latest News
We’ve all heard “new year, new me” enough times to count, but all too often our resolutions focus on the usual combination of healthy diet and exercise. While these are noble endeavors, we tend to overlook the health and functionality of our homes when it comes to setting New Year’s resolutions, even though most of us know that a home we feel at peace in can be the foundation for success in other areas of life. Today we’re sharing some ideas for perfecting your home environment in the new year.
Start with a Clean Slate
It’s the perfect time of year to do a major purge around your home. Once the holiday festivities have died down, take a good look around your space and commit to getting rid of the things you no longer need, use, or want. Look into donating used clothing to a local organization, or set up a tag sale for unwanted items and make a little extra coin to subsidize all that holiday shopping. Getting rid of the clutter will help you to feel calmer and more productive going in the new year, and we could all use a little bit of that these days.
Pick a Project You’ve Been Putting Off
We all have that one feature of our home we’ve been meaning to get around to, the thing that catches our eye and bugs us each day, but that we haven’t done anything about yet. Whether it’s organizing your desk drawers, replacing your chipped dishes, or upgrading your window treatments, do yourself a favor this year and commit to fixing that eye sore once and for all. Tackling small projects like this gives us a sense of accomplishment and can brighten up your home in the dreariness of winter.
Establish a Cleaning Schedule
If you struggle with finding the time to keep your home clean and organized, sit down and make a concerted effort to come up with a feasible schedule for cleaning that you can actually stick to. Setting realistic and attainable goals sets us up for success, and can provide some much-needed momentum so that we’re able to actually carry out our resolutions throughout the entirety of the year.
Invest in Yourself
Whether you struggle with clean eating or clutter-free closets (or both), invest in the tools that will help you to reach your goals. This could be something as simple as closet organizers to keep your clothing piles tidy, or a fun Tupperware set that makes meal prep for the week doable. You’re much more likely to follow through on your goals if you set yourself up with the tools you need to attain them.
