Our Latest News
Today’s skincare and beauty market is overrun with solutions promising to fix your every problem. It can often feel like there is a new product each day, with no real way to know if they work for you without a hefty investment and a few weeks of trial use. Often, these products have harmful chemicals, ingredients that may irritate your skin, or simply not work. We’ve got an affordable, simple, DIY fix for all of that today with our go-to skincare and beauty guide you can craft from ingredients in your home.
The Do-It-All Honey Mask
Honey has widely been cited as a cure-all in the wellness world. It sweetens our tea, calms our nerves, and even works as an antibacterial agent. There are many ways to incorporate honey into your skincare routine, starting with a simple one ingredient honey mask. We recommend using about a teaspoon of high quality raw honey, spreading evenly across your face, and leaving on for 15-30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry. A pure honey mask can be used multiple times a week, and should leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.
For specific skin concerns, such as acne, try mixing your honey mask with ½ a teaspoon of cinnamon, which also contains antibacterial components perfect for clearing up pesky pimples. If dry skin is more your issue, try mixing one teaspoon of mashed avocado, one teaspoon of plain whole milk yogurt, and one teaspoon of raw honey. This one can be left on for 20-30 minutes, and is safe to use multiple times a week, as it is mild and rich in vitamins to soothe and moisturize skin.
Treat Your Locks
The change of seasons brings with it an increased need for moisturizer from your skin to your hair. If you’re dealing with dry, brittle strands, try and easy at-home fix using ingredients from your refrigerator. There are plenty of recipes out there, but we personally love the olive oil plus avocado combination. All you need is one ripe avocado and two tablespoons of olive oil. Mash up the avocado and blend the ingredients together in a small bowl. Apply your mixture evenly to damp hair, cover with a shower cap for up to an hour, and wash and condition as usual. Voila, luscious locks.
Make Your Own Make-Up
If you really want to dive-in to the DIY game, try making your own makeup. Not only is it easy and fun, but it could save you some serious cash. There are many recipes out there, but we love this organic homemade foundation from Scratch Mommy. You’ll need almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, vitamin E, zinc oxide, cocoa powder, and cinnamon. While this may seem like a long ingredients list, you’ll be able to make many batches of foundation that will last you much longer than store-bought products that are often chock full of chemicals. In the end, you’ll have a satiny smooth foundation that lasts all day.
