How To Master The Art Of Coming Home From Vacation

The season to travel is upon us and while we mark our calendars, put in our vacation time, book our tickets, and pack our bags, we often forgo thinking about the reality of coming home after our trip. However, we all know the post-vacation blues can be trying so we’re here with a few quick tips to make the transition home as seamless as possible. After all, your home is your oasis no matter how relaxing that beach vacation just was!

Leave Yourself A Clean Slate To Come Home To

While packing and prepping for your trip, be sure to leave some extra time to tidy up your space and do your laundry. Coming home to a clean, organized home will help keep your mind in vacation mode, and clean laundry in the drawers gives you a little extra wiggle time to unpack that suitcase.

Make Sure You’re Stocked Up On Non-Perishable Food

After eating out at restaurants and hotels for a week, one of the simple joys of coming home is a nice home-cooked meal. However, hopefully you cleaned out your fridge before you left, there’s nothing worse than adding a big grocery store trip to your to-do list on your first day home. Make sure you’re prepped before you go by stocking up on non-perishable items that make for an easy meal. A favorite go-to of ours is Amy’s veggie chili. Easy, healthy, and non-perishable.

Give Yourself the Night Off

When you get through your front door and know your emails and bills have piled up, it can be tempting to try and get back on the grind as soon possible. Do yourself a favor and allow for one more night to ease back into your routine. A home-cooked meal and a good night’s sleep will give you the fuel to tackle your tasks with a clear head in the morning.

Plan Something Fun For the Next Upcoming Weekend

Sometimes after all the adrenaline and excitement of traveling wears off, it can leave us feeling a little down. Combat this feeling by planning something fun to look forward to within the next week or so. If you’ve missed family or friends while away, start a group chat about getting together at a local spot. Or if you’re feeling a more low-key vibe, carve out an afternoon for yourself when you can see a new movie, do a little shopping, or take a leisurely stroll around your neighborhood or local park. You’d be surprised how helpful it is to have something on the horizon to look forward to.
