4 LAST-MINUTE TRAINING TIPS TO RUN THE ST. PATRICK'S DAY PUB CRAWL 5K

|

Lace up your running shoes and get ready, because Casper’s St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl 5K is coming up in just a few days! Purchase your ticket today and get ready for a fast and fun couple of hours. From 1 to 4 PM, you’ll be making your way from pub to pub, with eight stops in all: Skull Tree Brewing, Yellowstone Garage, Frontier Brewing, Black Tooth, The Office, Racca’s, Urban Bottle, and Gaslight Social.

Make no mistake: You’ll have to hustle to get through them all on this preset course.

The best part about this event is that it benefits Jason’s Friends and Special Olympics.

So purchase your ticket today and start training. Here are a few tips to make sure you’re in tip-top shape for the event.

Start Slowly

Most runners recommend starting out your training with a slower pace – you don’t want to throw yourself into a hardcore running routine if you’ve been “out of the game” for a while. Since you only have a few days to prepare, however, and not a few weeks, try taking brisk walks and running at regular intervals to build up your endurance. Keep the running intervals moderate until you know how far you can push yourself and see if you can increase your walking pace when you’re not running.

Map the Public Restrooms on the Route

Yep, we consider this an essential part of the training for this event. You’ll be consuming 4-ounce beverages at each of the eight locations. That’s a total of 32 ounces, which is the equivalent of 4 cups or 1 quart. That’s a lot of liquid. You’re definitely going to need a couple of bathroom breaks so you can travel lightly as you go.

Prevent Stitches

If you get stitches or cramps while running, especially when you consume too many liquids or eat before a run, take precautions. Make sure to eat a light meal an hour or more before this event so your stomach is relatively empty and your blood sugar level remains stable. Do some stretches beforehand. Set out at a steady, moderate pace. And during the run, breathe deeply and maintain good posture.

Stay Hydrated

The 32 ounces of liquids you’ll be consuming during this event won’t help you stay hydrated. Bring water!
