Summer is already awesome, but wouldn’t it be that much more amazing sipping tropical cocktails on your own private island? Unfortunately, owning a private island is just out of reach for the majority of us. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all pretend! Check out this fun guide we put together to enjoying the private island lifestyle in your own apartment.
Take a Seat
First things first, you’re going to need the right kind of chair. A multiposition model like this one from Wayfair is kind of ideal because it lets you lay back and enjoy the sun’s rays, but you can also sit up and soak your feet in the surf...
Soak Your Feet
Not the real surf, but our approximation of one. When the heat starts to get to you and you need to cool down, nothing beats a cool, refreshing foot soak – especially when it includes fresh mint and sliced cucumbers! Start with a tiny kiddie pool and then follow this recipe from The Kitchen. This may be more balcony friendly than an indoor activity, but it’s your private island, so you decide.
Beat the Heat
It’s not a true island retreat without a fruity cocktail in your hand and a pitcher by your side. We’re thinking rum here – specifically the classic daiquiri, which you could easily slushify, if that’s more your style. Made with rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup, this delicious drink is as tasty as it is simple. Check out the full recipe here.
Grill Some Meat (and/or Veggies)
Nothing says tropical island vacation like skewers marinated in something sweet and then tossed on the grill. Our vote is for chicken or pork, but the meaty texture of portobello is another great option. Here are some more tasty meat and veggie kebab options.
