Do you love bird watching? If so, head to the Tracy Aviary. It's one of only two free-standing aviaries in the United States, and it has evolved over its 80 plus year history to become a cultural landmark, public garden, and leader in environmental conservation.
Visitors find there is much to see and do. The aviary's exhibits feature birds from around the world, including:
TREASURES OF THE RAINFOREST
Explore the sights and sounds of the rainforest without leaving Utah. After coming face-to-face with a violaceous turaco, see if you can find the black-naped fruit doves camouflaged in the lush foliage.
CHILEAN FLAMINGOS
Easy to recognize with their bright pink feathers, Chilean flamingos have robust bodies with tall, thin legs, and long, flexible necks. They occupy habitats throughout the Andes, ranging from coastal mudflats to salt lakes. In the wild, they live in large groups and have the ability to survive extremely harsh conditions.
SOUTH AMERICAN PAVILION
An indoor/outdoor exhibit, the South American Pavilion features approximately 30 colorful birds. Several species, including the gray-blue tanagers, are rather secretive. These creatures have light blue feathers with brighter blue margins from the wings to the tail. Their habitats range from southern Mexico to the northern edge of the Amazon basin and they spend most of their day on the ground searching for insects and small fruit.
NOSE-TO-BEAK EXPERIENCES
Enhance your visit with a Nose-to-Beak experience. One of the most popular offerings includes Paint with Picasso. You'll choose the colors, and watch as a talented blue and gold macaw creates a masterpiece. You keep the art, and the work comes with a certificate of authenticity and a photograph of the artist.
