Become a Volunteer at a South Jordan Area Food Bank
If you're looking to help friends and neighbors in need, donate your time at a food bank. You'll sort and package food, among other tasks. The food banks near our South Jordan apartments include:
Bruin Pantry
The Bruin Pantry works to address food insecurities for the students, staff, and faculty of Salt Lake Community College. It offers nutritious food, which often comes from the Utah Food Bank and campus food drives. The Bruin Pantry also supplies hygiene products, interview clothes, and other basic needs. Several volunteer shifts are available at the pantry every week.
Utah Food Bank
For more than a century, the Utah Food Bank has fought hunger across the state. In 2021, through its 216 partner agencies, the food bank distributed 58.5 million meals. During the same year, volunteers donated 141,7000 hours. That's the equivalent of 68 full-time employees. Shifts are available at various times throughout the week. Tasks may include sorting food, assembling food boxes, and labeling food for distribution. All volunteers must schedule their shifts in advance.
Crossroads Urban Center
A local fixture for more than 50 years, Crossroads Urban Center has operated one of Utah's busiest emergency food pantries. The pantry supplies food bags and boxes to those in need. It also supports infants by offering formula, baby food, and diapers. Crossroads depends on volunteers. Those working in the pantry clean, prepare sandwiches, and accept donations, among other duties. After completing the 30-minute online orientation, you'll receive a link to schedule your first shift.
Before volunteering, start your day with a donut (or two) at a nearby shop. You can enjoy everything from classic glazed to one-of-a-kind creations.
