Explore the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium near Herriman
Welcoming over six million visitors since 2014, the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium takes everyone on a journey around the world. You'll explore everything from kelp forests to the cold waters of the Antarctic. The aquarium features over 4,000 animals and strives to encourage everyone to visit Earth's diverse ecosystems. Here is some of what you can discover near our Herriman apartments:
Ocean Explorer
With a 40-foot underground tunnel and touching tanks, it's no wonder that Ocean Explorer is one of the most popular exhibits. It's home to several incredible animals, including loggerhead sea turtles. Named for their large heads, they're the most common sea turtle in U.S. coastal waters. They are protected by national laws and are known for making extensive migrations between foraging areas and nesting beaches.
Journey to South America
Visit a tropical rainforest without leaving Utah. Journey to South America features exotic fish, reptiles, free-flying birds, and more. A highlight includes the keel-billed toucans. The national bird of Belize, they have a frog-like call that can be heard up to a half-mile away. They're social creatures, and in the wild, they nest in natural or woodpecker-created tree cavities. Keel-billed toucans mainly eat fruit, though, at times, they also feast on insects, lizards, and bird eggs.
Penguin Encounter
Enhance your aquarium experience with the penguin encounter. The fun starts with learning all about the Gentoo penguins before getting to meet these charming animals up close. You'll get to know their individual personalities and even feed them capelin fish by hand. This encounter lasts about 50 minutes.
