Not far from our Herriman apartments is a unique destination that "inspires curiosity and caring for birds and nature." It's called the Tracy Aviary & Botanical Garden, and it invites everyone to come and explore year-round. Here is some of what you can discover during your visit.
Sandhill Crane
Found throughout the United States, sandhill cranes are known for their large personalities. These birds are tall with long necks. They feature gray body feathers, black legs, and red crowns. Sandhill cranes are found in various habitats, and their rattling bugle calls are heard up to 2.5 miles away.
Trumpeter Swan
One of the aviary's most popular residents, trumpeter swans are one of the rarest native birds in North America. Adults are all white with black bills, while older juveniles are mostly a pale dusky gray with white highlights. During your visit, purchase some duck food and feed the swans and other water birds that share the exhibit with them.
Meet the Tortoises
Then head behind the scenes to meet the tortoises. You will get up close to Quentin Romaine, Stanley Dandelion, and Bernard Mustard as you learn about their favorite foods and how they are an important part of the aviary's mission. This experience occurs at 2:00 p.m., Friday through Monday. Be sure and book your spot at least one week in advance.
Nature Store
End your visit at the Nature Store. It offers unique gifts whether you're shopping for a loved one or are looking to treat yourself to something special. The selection includes puzzles, organic Condor Coffee (which supports condor conservation), and one-of-a-kind works painted by the aviary's talented macaws.
