Learn About Animals from Around the World at the Fort Worth Zoo
What started from humble beginnings is now the oldest continuous zoo site in Texas. We're talking about the Fort Worth Zoo, which has welcomed guests since 1909. Today, it's where you can explore fascinating exhibits and enjoy behind-the-scenes tours. Here is some of what the zoo has to offer near our Willow Park apartments:
Giraffe Experience
Go behind the scenes to learn about the zoo's tallest residents. You'll venture inside the giraffe barn, and the friendly guide will share facts about the diet, training, and enrichment of these majestic animals. The giraffe experience lasts up to 60 minutes and includes zoo admission, so you can spend a fun-filled day learning about other creatures from around the world.
Elephant Springs
A newer habitat, Elephant Springs opened in 2021. It comes to life with lush gardens, a 400,000-gallon "river," and a fishing village where you can watch the Asian elephant herd in action. In the wild, these elephants live in various habitats like grasslands, savannas, and scrub forests. They weigh up to 6,000 pounds, and their gray skin is amazingly thick.
Stingray Cove
Also a new offering, Stingray Cove is an interactive exhibit where you can touch stingrays and small sharks as they swim in the saltwater pool. To enhance your experience, be sure and purchase food to feed the stingrays. Admission to Stingray Cove is $4 per person or $3 for zoo members.
Bluebonnet Cafe
When hunger hits, enjoy a meal at the Bluebonnet Cafe. Found in a turn-of-the-century town, it features a rustic Texas-style dining room with a stone fireplace and plenty of seating. Menu offerings include pizza, hot dogs, and hamburgers.
