Just seventeen minutes from Tacara at Westover Hills is a destination that features the sights and flavors of old Mexico.
We're talking about Historic Market Square, and with more than one hundred locally owned shops and stalls, it's the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico.
The market sits on a plaza that was gifted to the original settlers by the King of Spain in 1730, and highlights include:
Old Mexico Imports
Established more than thirty-five years ago, Old Mexico Imports features a friendly staff and vibrant atmosphere. It carries an array of items including Talavera pottery from Guanajuato, Mexico. It's a white and glazed type of ceramic, and an ordinance was created generations ago that potters who wish to produce Talavera have to follow. This ensures the pieces are uniform and have a distinctive style. The store carries traditional tiles, soap dispensers, tissue holders, and more.
Mi Tierra
Considered downtown's best Tex-Mex restaurant, Mi Tierra opened in 1941 as a three-table cafe for early rising farmers. Today, it's a local landmark where visitors come to enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and warm hospitality. The restaurant has grown to seat more than five hundred, and it welcomes hungry diners 24 hours a day. Meals include huevos rancheros, beef tacos, and carne asada.
La Margarita Restaurant & Oyster Bar
Featuring a charming Old World setting, La Margarita boasts it's the embodiment of San Antonio's warm, vibrant confluence of cultures. It is the home of the original sizzling fajitas, and they're often enjoyed with the restaurant's famous margaritas, La Magnifica.
