Enjoy a Trip to the San Antonio Botanical Garden

With botanical diversity and outstanding horticulture displays, it's no wonder that the San Antonio Botanical Garden has gained national attention. It "enriches the lives of plants and nature," and there's always something in bloom. Here is some of what you can discover when you visit the gardens near our San Antonio apartments:

Lucile Halsell Conservatory

Boasting a unique design, the Lucile Halsell Conservatory changed San Antonio's landscape in 1988. It features five futuristic glass structures home to plants and trees from around the world. A highlight includes the coconut palm. Called one of the world's most useful trees, it provides fuel, clothing, food, and building materials. These palms live in tropical coastal areas and have slender ringed trunks with featherlike leaves.

Texas Native Trail

On the Texas Native Trail, you'll enjoy a stroll across the Lone Star State. It highlights three different ecological regions, differing in weather, soil, and topography. Along the way, you will also discover the Auld House. Constructed in the 1880s, it was the home of the Alexander Kennedy Auld family. Built of pinon pine, it's believed to be the largest structure of its type in Texas. The cabin originally stood on the protected base of a 300-foot cliff. It was donated to the botanical garden in 1996.

Jardin

Step back in time at Jardin. A garden highlight, this restaurant is in the historic Sullivan Carriage House, originally constructed in 1896. It's where acclaimed Chef Jason Dady showcases the flavors of the Mediterranean. He uses the finest, freshest ingredients; also, his dishes are best enjoyed with wines from new and old-world wineries. Dinner offerings include roasted chicken confit, slow-braised lamb ragout, and pan-seared salmon. For another way to get out and explore beyond the San Antonio Botanical Garden, also head to Natural Bridge Caverns. You can enjoy tours, tackle the challenging ropes course, and more.
