If you have a green thumb, or just love the outdoors, there are lots of ways to bring your favorite outdoor plants in. With a little extra attention, these plants will thrive in any environment.
Dwarf Lemon Tree
Did you know you can grow lemons indoors? The Dwarf Improved Meyer, Dwarf Ponderosa, and Dwarf Variegated Pink Lemonade are all varieties that are good for indoor cultivation. When you purchase these trees, they are usually able to produce fruit, though are still considered immature – which means eventually, they will, indeed, grow, reaching a peak of about 3-4 feet. So make sure you have plenty of space, as well as light because these plants need lots of both. Be sure you have the time and attention to devote to these trees, because growing them indoors requires a lot of care and a watchful eye.
Begonias
These popular flowers usually grace decorative borders or peek out from container gardens bedecking front porches. But they actually thrive in indoor spaces, as well. You’ll want to make sure you get the right kind (fibrous or rhizomatous) and get to know their very particular needs for moisture and watering. With their stunning flowers, begonias are totally worth the effort.
Hot Peppers
If you’re a gardener and a cook, we’ve got just the thing for you: growing hot peppers indoors! The only real drawback here is that indoor peppers will never get as big as those grown outdoors because they simply don’t have access to enough light. So try simply growing smaller varieties to avoid any issues there, like cayenne peppers, bird peppers, and chile de arbol. You’ll need to keep them warm and well-tended, but in general, they are pretty simple to care for.
Fuchsias
These stunning purple and pink flowers will make you smile every time you see them – so why limit them to patio gardens? These are probably one of the most agreeable plants to grow indoors, as they don’t need as much direct light as most other varieties mentioned here, nor do they need cooler or warmer temperatures – keep it mild and consistent, and they’ll be happy. All you have to do is make sure they are watered regularly and they’ll keep blooming for you.
