FUN IN MIDLAND: 5 LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

|

Looking for cool things to add to your summer must-see list? Lucky for you, Midland is home to plenty of fun and interesting places to visit. Here are some of our favorites.

Sibley Nature Center

This beautiful escape to nature right here in Midland was created by two local teachers who wanted to ensure that students would be able to immerse themselves in the flora and fauna of the region – something that seemed glaringly absent from their educational experiences. Today, Sibley hosts people of all ages who want to spend time in nature, appreciating everything that’s so unique about Midland. Here, you’ll find a wildlife viewing garden and plenty of nature trails for relaxed strolls or more robust hikes. And be sure to take advantage of their Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series.

Museum of the Southwest

This museum grew out of the dream to bring art and culture to what was, at the time, a very small town in western Texas. Thanks to those visionary community members, today’s residents of Midland have access to all kinds of incredible, immersive experiences. Wander the sculpture garden where you’ll find inspiring carvings and metalwork. Visit the onsite historic Turner Mansion, which tells a fascinating tale from Midland’s past and its ties to the Kentucky Derby. And check out the dome shows where you’ll get to experience outer space without ever leaving the planet.

The Hemingway

Fine wine. Imported beer. The best cigars. And soulful music. Need we say more? This lounge is a favorite hangout for locals. Grab a seat on their outdoor patio and order dinner from The Garlic Press, next door, and you’ve got yourself the perfect evening.

Midland Downtown Farmers Market

Don’t miss this fun, community event every Saturday, from 8:00 am to noon this season! You’ll find it on the lawn of the Museum of the Southwest. All the produce and food products are locally sourced, which means every visit supports the local economy. Plus, it’s just a fun way to spend a Saturday morning in the summertime!

Wadley-Barron Park

This beautiful park features 7.3 acres of grassy knolls, as well as a duck pond. It’s a perfect place for an evening barbeque with friends or an early morning stroll to get your day started on the right foot.
