Observed since 1911, International Women's Day on March 8 marks a day of celebration and advocacy for women's rights around the world. Its purpose is to support gender equality across the board, and we are here for it. Join in on the celebrations this year with these four ways to take part in supporting this century-old observance.
Support Your Local, Women-Owned Businesses
One of the best ways to support women is by supporting a women-owned business or brand. Many women have pushed forth tremendous efforts to shape an equal future by obtaining leadership roles within their community, from small shop owners to large tech company CEOs. Seek out those women-owned businesses and say hello – not only on March 8 but also throughout the year.
Attend a Virtual Event
International Women's Day presents a great opportunity to learn more about women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements throughout history. There are several virtual events and panels to attend this year, from live concerts to a bike party.
Donate to Charity
Help push forward women's equality by donating to a registered charity or nonprofit. There are many incredible groups worldwide to choose from, all working to advance equality for women and girls. If you are not able to donate yourself, raise awareness and help fundraise for your charity of choice by spreading the word via social media or asking for donations instead of an upcoming birthday gift.
Acknowledge The Amazing Women in Your Life
If you only do one thing this International Women's Day, make it a point to acknowledge all of the hardworking, talented, and beautiful women in your life. Send them a friendly hello text. Venmo a few dollars for coffee. Schedule a coffee talk date with a good friend, and discuss how moving forward, you both can contribute in ways to support women.
The little things do add up. Whether you plan to attend an event, donate some money or time to a charity supporting women, or spend some time reading books to your kids about strong girls and positive gender roles, you're doing it. Find your way of celebrating this International Women's Day with these four different ways to do your part.
